English Summary "Christelijke Oratorium Vereniging ‘Con Amore’ Leiden"
The Christian Oratorio Society ‘Con Amore’ was founded in 1912. Since 2008 our permanent musical director and conductor is Bernhard Touwen.

The choir has a tradition of performing a wide range of diverse classical works. Our repertoire consists of well and less well known pieces. For example ‘Con Amore’ has had the tradition of annually performing either Handel’s “Messiah” or Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”. While that tradition has been discontinued due to rising costs, both works are nevertheless still sung by the choir on a regular basis (see for details this website under section: Repertoire).

The choir organises annually a major concert with a professional orchestra and  professional soloists (see under section: Komende concerten) . Because of the significant costs involved in staging such events we sometimes restrict ourselves to a performance with organ accompaniment only.

Con Amore has room for new members!
What could be more pleasurable than to make music with your voice?
Currently, the choir consists of about 80 members. But we have room for many more than that. Even if you are timid or unfamiliar about singing in a large choir, we can assure you once you try it you will be completely captivated! Come along to one of our weekly rehearsals without any obligation. We welcome any voice type, but are particularly in need of tenors and first sopranos. The minimum joining age is 16 and the upper age limit for new members is 65. After a few weeks of participation, the applicant members will be auditioned by the conductor to ensure their most suitable place in the choir. Membership fee: € 20,- month.

Our rehearsals take place every Thursday evening from 20.00h to 22:00h in the Vredeskerk, Van Vollenhovenkade 24 te Leiden.
